As my time in Pakistan is starting to come to a close, I’m reflecting on some of the quirks of this country that will be different from life back home.
These days, a significant motivation factor to move quickly in the morning is the prospect of the electricity going out. I urgently need some volts to power my coffee grinder and heat water; I mean, how awful is a morning without coffee?
Load shedding means that the power goes out on the hour, but you never can be sure which hour it will go. Therefore, any time it is X:55am and the power is on, you’ll find me scrambling into the kitchen racing for the grinder.
This gets me going in the mornings when my bed’s siren song is still blaring.
Life is no fun without incentives, small wins and little joys.
There are a lot of actions you do on a regular basis that you love: check the news, eat a snack, browse fbook.
Turn these into little rewards for small victories.
The taste of victory is sweet.
